Why I'm Building Sportswear for Powerful Bodies

Hey, I’m Nina. I’m an Olympic Athlete and Stanford Engineer redesigning performance sportswear for powerful women.

Because if you’re like me, maybe you’ve struggled to find running shorts that don’t chafe. Or felt personally attacked by the front seam of your leggings. Or are forced to size up each time you want to find bottoms that actually fit your thighs.

I’ve played sports all my life, and growing up it felt like the media, brands, and sometimes even my coaches were telling me I didn’t have the body of an athlete. I used to believe the problem was me. That I was doing something wrong in my training and nutrition that kept me from looking like those tall, svelte models I was seeing in my favorite brand catalogs.

We've come a long way since the early 2000s, with more brands offering extended size ranges and showcasing a wider range of bodies. But the unfortunate reality is that HOW we build activewear hasn't fundamentally changed. The fashion industry continues to use outdated models and data of what an athletic body looks like, favoring lean figures over powerful ones.

So if you've ever felt like activewear just wasn't designed for your body, or that you constantly have to shop around to find something that fits. I'm glad you found us.

We're on a mission to build better activewear by listening to the voices of the women in our community and building for the reality of what it means to be an athlete and a woman on the move. Because when you look good, you feel good. And when you feel good, you play better.

Recent research has shown that 48% of girls will drop out of sport by the Age of 14 due to low body confidence. And I could have been one of them. That's why I quit my corporate job to build the brand I wish I’d seen as a young girl. Because if not now, then when.

Women’s sports and athletes are finally getting the coverage and visibility they have always deserved. And now it's more important than ever to show young girls that they belong, that they are enough, and that their bodies are about so much more than how they look, but rather how they make them feel. Powerful. Capable. Strong.

So I want to know, what do you wish you could change about sportswear?
